Windows XP's SP3 Goes to Beta 1 Comments

Windows XP's Final Service Pack Goes to Beta

On Friday, Microsoft released a preview of its final update to the Windows XP operating system, Windows XP Service Pack 3. The service pack is essentially a rollup of previous hot-fixes to the operating system, and includes no new features. The final release of the service pack is due in early 2008.

Even without new features, the beta should be worth a look-- considering that it is a roll-up of over a hundred patches. If you've already kicked the tires of all of Microsoft's previous patches and have integrated them into your systems management operating system image, it's not a huge deal . But it should make new installs of Windows XP go a little more quickly for those who want to quickly configure new systems with the old OS with a complete set of patches, rather than running through the Windows Update gauntlet.
